My journey began about 25 years ago, when my local fitness centre offered a new fitness class called Pilates. Curious, I signed up and I was instantly hooked. That first encounter prompted me to look for a Pilates studio in my area. The more I experienced Pilates, the more it just made sense to me.
You see, movement has always been a part of my life. I probably learned to move before I could speak. The younger and painfully shy me turned to movement as a means of expression.
It calmed me.
It centered me.
It regulated my emotions.
It also gave me joy.
Pilates is all about balance, breathing, centering and so much more. All the things I was already seeking in movement. Pilates corrected my posture and my youthful-shy slouch. Pilates gave me confidence. Amidst the hustle and bustle of life, Pilates was there in the background. I went on and did other things, but I always found myself coming back to its principles.
Fast-forward today, 50-something, a busy working mum, hit with hormones and random aches. Naturally, I turned to Pilates. I needed it more than ever. I felt the benefits gradually and my body recognised and craved that familiar movement (that's called muscle memory!).
I’ve always wanted to be a movement practitioner. I remember buying my first anatomy book and looking up teacher training courses in my 20s. Through consistent practice, a dedicated period of teacher training with PITC in Australia (2 hardworking years!) under some amazing teachers and mentors, I am now able to pursue my desire to share the benefits of Pilates and movement with other women. This is all about helping other women become the best versions of themselves.
My teaching style is warm, encouraging, and inclusive, making my classes accessible to women of all levels. Pilates is for all bodies, and I strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where women can connect to their bodies and their soul. In Arabic we say fil haraka baraka which means there’s blessing in movement. I believe that taking care of our bodies is ultimately a way for us to create the mental space and capacity for our souls to attain clarity, to reflect on the blessings we have, and to connect with the Divine.
When I’m not teaching, I am being a mum, working as a lawyer, or dreaming up an idea for my next book. I love hiking in nature, baking bread or sweet treats, and reflecting on the blessings around us. I’m always eager to connect with like-minded individuals who share my passion for faith-conscious movement and personal growth.
